Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Specification (OHSAS) is an international standard enabling organizations to manage both their operational risks and improve their performance. The technical specification of OHSAS 18001 takes a structured approach to occupational health and safety management (OHS). FIU(SM)R, The Factories & Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation has come into operation on 1 April 2002 by the government of HKSAR. Contractors or proprietors in relation to construction sites, shipyards, factories and other designated industrial undertakings with 50 or more employees must comply with the new regulation. Developing and maintaining a safety management system and conducting regular safety audit are a must for these contractors and proprietors.
